Failure to do good is a Sin!

“Our people must learn to do good by meeting the urgent needs of others; then they will not be unproductive.”

Memory Verse: “Therefore, to him who knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin.” James 4:17 .

How easy is it for a person to part with what belongs to them, expecting or getting nothing in return? Some people may easily say I don’t mind giving for a good cause, others could respond saying, I hardly ever have enough for myself talk more of giving out to others.

Doing good doesn’t come naturally to all as some see giving as a waste of saveable resources. There is this believe of “all man for himself” but as children of God we see in the life of Christ that He didn’t just go about doing good daily, He likewise summarised all ten commandments given by God to His people into two all which was about doing good towards God and towards other people.

“Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbour as yourself.’ On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.” Matthew 22:37-40.

The parable of the Good Samaritan remains one of my most favourite in the bible as it gives more clarity on the commandments summarised by Jesus. It not only highlights the type of world we live in but also clearly shows that most people are out of balance whiles assuming that their focus on one part of the commandment is enough to cover for all.

The priest and Levite who were people actively working in the house of the Lord ignored the need of the wounded man whiles a random person was better than them who were known to be of service in the Lords house, Luke 10:25-37.

Doing good is an act of obedience to the commandment of God which must be learnt and practiced daily until it becomes part of our everyday life. The question Jesus responded to was “Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?” Luke 10:25. Therefore, if all we are focused on is ourselves, we already have our reward as we are only aiming to inherit this life but if our focus is truly to inherit heaven and be with Jesus then doing good is a Must.

Failure to do good is a sin whiles doing good is honouring God and it pleases Him. When God is honoured, He honours us in return “ But now the Lord says: ‘Far be it from Me; for those who honour Me I will honour, and those who despise Me shall be lightly esteemed.” I Samuel 2:30.

PRAYERS:

  • Thank you for your endless provision and always meeting my needs
  • Help me to live my life daily walking with you and building heavenly treasures
  • Help me to be kind and generous to others, fulfilling your commandment of love
  • Forgive my sins Lord and answer my prayers, in Jesus name, Amen.
