Am I Doing Enough?

II Chronicles 13:10-11

But as for us, the Lord is our God, and we have not forsaken Him; and the priests who minister to the Lord are the sons of Aaron, and the Levites attend to their duties.  And they burn to the Lord every morning and every evening burnt sacrifices and sweet incense; they also set the showbread in order on the pure gold table, and the lampstand of gold with its lamps to burn every evening; for we keep the command of the Lord our God, but you have forsaken Him.

Memory verse: I, the Lord, search the heart, I test the mind, even to give every man according to his ways, According to the fruit of his doings. Jeremiah 17.10

Without an element of doubt, most people if not all, wants to achieve results and as a matter of fact, the average human always does something for a reason! When asked sometimes, people may say they are yet to define why they are doing what they are involved in but most times we have a rough idea of why and as children of God, we are not exempted from this approach to things in life.

The bible clearly shows that even children of God have expectations from God, so when we don’t get the desires of our heart, we may begin to grumble. We see that in Malachi 3:14 when people began to complain after a while saying ‘It is useless to serve God; What profit is it that we have kept His ordinance, And that we have walked as mourners Before the Lord of hosts? and in fact, this was because they expected their lives to be more profitable because they lived in obedience to the word of God and served God. Having done this, they assumed all their act of obedience and loyalty to God was in vain because they see nonbelievers flourishing.

The question however is do you do enough to expect the kind of reward you are expecting?

Most often, people generally including believers can go a whole day without thinking about God, studying His word, or even asking for the leading of the Holyspirt.  People get to the point of never even thinking of the impact isolation from God may have in their lives but then begin to play catch up when they get stuck and need something from God.

At this point they remember everything about God, spend continuous hours in fellowship and once they receive, they on the move again, abandoning Him who has made it possibly, just till the next difficulty surfaces.

The quality and longevity of what you get from God will hugely be dependent on your consistency towards His things.

One thing remains certain and assured which is that God is always faithful and will not let the labour of our love towards Him go in vain! In today’s bible verse we see that they people burnt to the Lord every morning and every evening sacrifices and sweet incense; they also set the showbread in order on the pure gold table, and the lampstand of gold with its lamps to burn every evening.  These people put in conscious effort to build the relationship and connect with God.

This was a continuous act of worship; they did not forsake God. How then will God forsake such people? He won their battles and gave them victory!

What are your sacrifices towards the Lord worth? Will you say you do enough to stand before God? Are you able to bring forth your reasons why He should attend to you or are you simply giving in the minimum and expecting the maximum?
