The Debt Is Fully Paid

“But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed.”

Memory verse: In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace, Ephesians 1:7.

Have you wanted something so bad that you strictly save towards it? It’s even more painful if there is no guarantee of success after you have saved so much for it. That’s the story of most people including myself. Once I get my mind fixed on something that I truly desire, I analyse what it will cost me and begin to save towards it. Buying a house in most countries have become a struggle and most people like myself spend many years saving up for the deposit and even while saving, house prices keeps increasing and for some it almost feels like that deposit value is unachievable. Then the government announces increase to tax and the natural human is deflated only to get a call that the deposit for the house you have been saving for has been full paid for in your name.

That’s right, you now have that house with your name on it and all you have to do is sign on the dotted line and begin to maintain the house. For some and depending on their level of maturity, they will appreciate that for the rest of their lives and ensure they continue to pay back their mortgage monthly so they don’t loose the house completely back to the lenders. While for others they simply now see it as a means to be wasteful after all they have no need to be diligent in their spending. The deposit was paid, the house is in their name and the rest is history.

The debts have been paid, yes all that we owe has been fully sorted but if we go back to the bank and continue to loan money recklessly, we may find ourselves in the same financial burden we were before the debts were overwritten.

As believers, we live with the understanding that Jesus has paid it all in full but we ought to maintain the relationship with Him in order to continue enjoying the benefit of salvation.  By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain, 1 Corinthians 15:2We cannot begin to live recklessness because we know we are free from sin and debt free as if we do, it’s possible to put ourselves in a worse position even before we were saved.

“When an impure spirit comes out of a person, it goes through arid places seeking rest and does not find it.  Then it says, ‘I will return to the house I left.’ When it arrives, it finds the house unoccupied, swept clean and put in order.  Then it goes and takes with it seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and live there. And the final condition of that person is worse than the first. That is how it will be with this wicked generation, Matthew 12:43-45.

Jesus has paid it off, but don’t take it for granted.
