Expectation Set individually!

“And to one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one, to each according to his own ability; and immediately he went on a journey. Then he who had received the five talents went and traded with them, and made another five talents. But he who had received one went and dug in the ground, and hid his Lord’s money. After a long time the Lord of those servants came and settled accounts with them. “So he who had received five talents came and brought five other talents, saying, ‘Lord, you delivered to me five talents; look, I have gained five more talents besides them.’ His Lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your Lord.’ He also who had received two talents came and said, ‘Lord, you delivered to me two talents; look, I have gained two more talents besides them.’ His Lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your Lord.’ “Then he who had received the one talent came and said, ‘Lord, I knew you to be a hard man, reaping where you have not sown, and gathering where you have not scattered seed. And I was afraid, and went and hid your talent in the ground. Look, there you have what is yours.”

Memory Verse: For everyone to whom much is given, from him much will be required; and to whom much has been committed, of him they will ask the more. Luke 12:48b

Growing up is a big deal. There was a time when everyone kept saying the phrase “Adulthood is a scam”, this is not because they would rather remain children forever but because of the tonnes of responsibilities associated with being an adult. The life of a child seems very simple and less complicated. Children are expected to be fully dependant of their parents and have everything provided for them at least the basics (Food , Shelter & Clothing) but with that dependency comes a lot of restrictions. Children are therefore expected to only do child stuffs, even the government of many developed countries have put measures in place to ensure those classed as children are unable to legally do things that adults do (driving & working amongst many others).

Once a child starts school, there is already an expectation set as they are gradually expected to retain knowledge from what they are being taught and likewise demonstrate their concentration by achieving certain grades when tested. That is where the responsibility truly starts. In a standard family setting, the parents continue to support their children through all the assignments and all expectations set.

Where there is progression to university, there is a prospective expectation post-graduation that at that stage the previous child has now transitioned into adulthood with the expectation to behave responsibility in the society. Possibly get a job, car, house, and the rest alike. They are no longer children and have gotten to a stage of greater responsibility due to growth and because they have been well equipped through childhood, the expectation is that they become responsible adult as anything short of that will make people see them as a failure.

“When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things.” 1 Corinthians 13:11.

This is exactly why Christians have greater responsibilities. We have been given an opportunity to start on a clean slate through the blood of Jesus and even more, we have been given the Holyspirt. God has equipped us with His spirit and expects us to be productive. We have a responsibility and cannot hide under any excuses unless we have decided that God has not equipped us a lot and as such, we are inaudibly telling God that He is expecting too much from us.

In the parable of the talents, God is not asking for five more from the one He gave only two talents to but He expects that something will have been done with that which was given .

It’s time to wake up to reality, God will ask you how you have used that which He has deposited in you.
