Living Intentionally Series: Part 5 – The Church in Sardis

This is what you must write to the angel of the church in Sardis: I have the seven spirits of God and the seven stars. Listen to what I say. I know what you are doing. Everyone may think you are alive, but you are dead. Wake up! You have only a little strength left, and it is almost gone. So try to become stronger. I have found that you are not completely obeying God. Remember the teaching you were given and heard. Hold firmly to it and turn from your sins. If you don’t wake up, I will come when you least expect it, just as a thief does. A few of you in Sardis have not dirtied your clothes with sin. You will walk with me in white clothes, because you are worthy.  Everyone who wins the victory will wear white clothes. Their names will not be erased from the book of life, and I will tell my Father and his angels that they are my followers.
Memory Verse: Even though they will make a show of being religious, their religion won’t be real. Don’t have anything to do with such people. 2 Timothy 3:5.

The church is Sardis were know by most people as wealthy spiritually. This church was enviable in the eye of everyone around and they were physically well positioned. Despite all the splendor that surrounded the Church in Sardis, they were at the point of spiritual bankruptcy.

The world was accessing them and giving credit based on their physical activity but Jesus was concerned for them.

It’s touching to see Jesus saying  Everyone may think you are alive, but you are dead. He further called out that they were at breaking point and using up the last bar on their battery and even at that point, the world could not fault them.

Self -Evaluation and alignment is key to repentance or progression and therefore if a Christian reviews and see that they align with this church, then they are living at risk. Christians in this category don’t see anything wrong with their relationship with God even thou they are soaked in sins, everything seem to be working out in alignment with what they expect and the world never stops praising them , this continues to drive them to continually dwell in sin until they miss it.

Jesus continues to give opportunities and we see that it’s not His will that any should perish, 2Peter 3:9.

Despite all Jesus recognizes that some in the same environment have kept themselves pure and He sees them. Like all other Church’s , Jesus is consistent in His words everyone who wins the victory will wear white clothes. Their names will not be erased from the book of life, and I will tell my Father and his angels that they are my followers. Revelation 3:5

The promises for last year, this year and many years to come will only be effective in a believer who stays fully committed to God.
