Living Intentionally Series: Part 4 – The Church in Thyatira

This is what you must write to the angel of the church in Thyatira: I am the Son of God! My eyes are like flames of fire, and my feet are like bronze. Listen to what I say.
I know everything about you, including your love, your faith, your service, and how you have endured. I know you are doing more now than you have ever done before. But I still have something against you because of that woman Jezebel. She calls herself a prophet, and you let her teach and mislead my servants to do immoral things and to eat food offered to idols.  I gave her a chance to turn from her sins, but she did not want to stop doing these immoral things.
I am going to strike down Jezebel. Everyone who does these immoral things with her will also be punished, if they don’t stop. I will even kill her followers. Then all the churches will see that I know everyone’s thoughts and feelings. I will treat each of you as you deserve.

Some of you in Thyatira don’t follow Jezebel’s teaching. You don’t know anything about what her followers call the “deep secrets of Satan.” So I won’t burden you down with any other commands. But until I come, you must hold firmly to the teaching you have.

Memory Verse:Even if you think you can stand up to temptation, be careful not to fall.” 1 Corinthians 10:12

Jesus sends a special message to the church in Thyatira and in this day that would be any category of Christian who after examination can relate to the message. It is clear that Jesus let’s the church know that He sees everything they do clearly. The church had five good qualities
  1. They had love
  2. They had faith
  3. They had service
  4. They had patience
  5. They had endurance
This church were near perfect because they managed to tick most of the boxes like most of us Christians but they lacked discernment and unity. Some people were aligned to Jezebel and being led astray by her false teaching. This may not have been Jezebel Ahab’s wife but what we know clearly is that her teachings were clearly false and it encouraged the people to do things glaringly against the word of God, while some member’s remained faithful to God.

Though Jesus outlines that those who followed Jezabel were headed for destruction, those who were not Jezebel followers were encouraged to hold firm to Christ but they live a very risky life.

Are you a strong Christian constantly enjoying the company of sin? There is a danger is hoovering around sin as you think you have enough strength to stand firm. It is important to remember that the promises of God is only for those who remain faithful till the end.
