“You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.”
Memory Verse: Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven. Matthew 5:16
Many times we find ourselves in the middle, not fully in neither out. We see ourselves loving the word of God and to an extent understand the starting point of salvation according to Romans 10:9 but what happens after that stage is really crucial, a choice to be fully in because we cannot stay on the borderline, as God doesn’t do indecisions.
Being adopted into a family means we have become legitimate members of that household but why then is our loyalty remaining divided between God and the world? We can quite easily make numerous excuses for that, the most common excuse being that “Christianity is not as easy as I though it will be, so I am still trying to find my balance.” The question is for how long are we intending to be unstable for?
When you become a child of God, that’s the new you. There should be no various versions that blends into various environment and in fact all that people should keep seeing is your upgraded version if there are changes to your life. The Israelites were like that, they had seen and known God. Not only have they heard of His mighty works but they had seen God in action, yet their loyalty was divided between God and Baal, 1Kings 17:21. As a result of their divided loyalty, they remained part of the dryness for 3years under the kindship of Ahab. Their inconsistency meant that they did not enjoy the special protection of God when it was necessary.
Your life and mine can either lead people to or away from God and because people read us more than they read their bibles, it’s pretty straightforward for some to associate with you if they see your life fits in with their lifestyle. Christianity is not a movie, there are not directors, producers and actors on stage therefore there is no timeline to how long you will have to keep being in this movie. Once you declare yourself as a child of God, it becomes and should become your way of life. The clarity in that makes everyone around you know where exactly you stand.
If unbelievers don’t know where you stand, how then can you lead anyone to Christ? It’s not in the Sunday attendance of church or scripture status updates on social media but it’s in the lifestyle you live even when no one is watching because even when we think no one is watching, someone is still watching.
Is your life attractive enough to attract others? Whiles people are caught up in trying to be a Christians, we forget that God chooses the unqualified for a reason. He knows who you are before He chose you and accepted you into the family so best believe it if God wanted someone else who had a difference personality, He would have chosen someone else not you.
Once your heart has been transformed people will see the light of God in you, it just cannot help but shine and every time you shift to another path, you are putting your lamp under the bushel, a connotation of you being hidden and with that, people cannot find their way to Christ through you.
Your life shining bright for Christ is what will lead others to Him. They will see their path to the right direction through you. You are the light that is needed to lead others to Christ.
