Visualizing Ahead!

“Then God opened her eyes, and she saw a well. She went and filled the leather bag with water and gave some to the boy.” Read Genesis 21:14-19

Memory Verse: 1 Peter 5:7 “Leave all your worries with him, because he cares for you.”

John Lubbock once gave an analogy about seeing. He explained that “What we do see depends mainly on what we look for. In the same field the farmer will notice the crop, the geologists the fossils, botanists the flowers, artists the coloring, sportsmen the cover for the game. Though we may all look at the same things, it does not all follow that we should see them.”. In one word, we might all be looking at the same thing, situation, direction, opportunity and what not, but see different things.

Very often people don’t see the bigger picture of most situation because as human beings we have trained our mind to jump at the very first opportunity in everything. But over time, it has been recorded that the most beautiful and likewise dangerous things are not seen from the surface. A simplified example is gold in its raw state; so full of layers that even when found, still needs layers of refinement to be carried out before you get the real gold. From a structural human perspective, the heart is where most of the good and bad decisions takes place and it is hidden so no man can see it; yet the mouth we all can see is only a messenger to the heart Jeremiah 17:9, Matthew 15:18, which is why God test our hearts and not just what proceeds from our mouth, Jeremiah 17:10.

If we were all randomly given a white piece of paper with some thin line and almost invisible sketches on it, whiles some people may be able to tell you they can see things, map them together and make something of it, others will tell you they see nothing. What is seen all depends on how deep you look. For someone like me, I probably will see nothing most of the time because I typically will just have a quick look and shift my attention to something else. Taking time to look carefully and attentively is the difference between scrapping the surface and unearthing the treasures. Criss Jami once said “If love is blind, then maybe a blind person that loves has a greater understanding of it.” I believe this is because the focus and attention will be second to none, a 100%.

This was the story of Hagar. She was so overwhelmed by being driven out of Abrahams house that even when her son was distressed and needed water she could not see the well. Hagar was not recorded in the bible as a blind woman therefore she had both eyes functioning but with the distractions in her mind, she bothered so much that even the visible opportunities couldn’t be seen.

Like Hagar, some problems in life can the overwhelming. Once faced with them, it may become very difficult to even pray like Hagar, and the human in us starts panicking and instead of seeing the opportunities, we just freeze and shut out system down from functioning.

There is an opportunity in that situation. Hagar had a well filled with water where she could have unlimited supply but just could not see it.

Depending on how you have programmed your mind to function, you can either see the situation as a problem or an opportunity. I pray specially for you this morning that God will open your eye to see the opportunities around you and be able to key into them in Jesus name.

PRAYERS:

  • Father I thank You for your plans for me and for giving me a good sight
  • I cast all my worries and burdens unto you, let me see the opportunities surrounding me in every situation.
  • Help me to fully acknowledge You for direction, live above fear of uncertainties and grant me the boldness to see beyond all impossibilities
  • Forgive my iniquities Lord and let your mercy prevail over judgement
  • Thank you Father and in Jesus Name I Pray, Amen.
