Worthless Service!

“Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: “Add your burnt offerings to your sacrifices and eat meat.  For I did not speak to your fathers, or command them in the day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt, concerning burnt offerings or sacrifices.  But this is what I commanded them, saying, ‘Obey My voice, and I will be your God, and you shall be My people. And walk in all the ways that I have commanded you, that it may be well with you.”

Memory Verse: each one’s work will become clear; for the Day will declare it, because it will be revealed by fire; and the fire will test each one’s work, of what sort it is. 1 Corinthian 3:13

Have you reached the working stage of your life? This is a stage where you go on a job hunt in the labour market, seeking for employment. The idea is that you trade the knowledge and skills gathered from getting educated for money. The company employs you to work for them with the expectation that you deliver within your role and you are renumerated in return for your service.

The quality of work you deliver is sometimes dependent on experience but most time, the dedication and commitment yield more result. There are however those who cut corners at work to achieve results, they break the law and disregard the companies rules and regulations but appear to be the ones with the best result. When the authorities are informed, do you think they will be rewarded?

Most of those who cheat their way up usually get found out and get subjected to disciplinary processes. They may eventually get fired and sometimes indited legally and are subjected to paying fines or serving jail terms, depending on the severity of their offence and their position in the organisation.

Everyone created by God has a responsibility! Adam’s first responsibility was to manage the garden of Eden according to the book of Genesis 2:15, then he was given a guide on how to live happily and successfully “And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, “Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat;  but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.” Genesis 2:16-17.

Most times, Christian’s mistake service for obedience as they continue to spend long hours praying, fasting and attending religious gatherings meanwhile spending less time focusing on what’s really important, God! We spend more time in services and don’t show love to God by obeying him or show love to our neighbours in anyway. We neglect being doers of God’s word and yet expect a different outcome because we concentrate on what we think is best.

When it comes to the things of God, there is no shortcut to receiving blessings! If God says walk in all the ways that I have commanded you, that it may be well with you, the criteria is to do everything to walk in ways that is pleasing to God else no number of services can attract the bless attached to walking with the Lord. Though the services may be man pleasing but to God it is useless.

There is no shortcut in Christianity! The goal in not to be busy doing nothing but the goal is to ensure our services are approved by God. We do this so that when our work is being tested, we will be rewarded because it was truly genuine and acceptable to God. 1 Corinthian 3:14-15.

Any service which is not acceptable to God is  worthless.
