What Is Your Home Known For?

So, when he had considered this, he came to the house of Mary, the mother of John whose surname was Mark, where many were gathered together praying.  And as Peter knocked at the door of the gate, a girl named Rhoda came to answer.  When she recognized Peter’s voice, because of her gladness she did not open the gate, but ran in and announced that Peter stood before the gate.

Memory Verse: Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful. Psalm1:1.

Let’s do a little exercise. Pick your phone and scroll through your contact list, do a mental categorization of your contact. Some contacts may be just work colleagues and other families but there are some who have no categorization, let’s call them others. The final category is those whom you know you can call on for various reasons, who are those and what are the reasons you think you may call them? Now that your categorization is complete, where do you think you will fall in other people’s categorization?

We sometimes waste an awful lot of time doing nothing and the people we sometimes spend our time talking to, are those who we see as important. We invest all the time we could spend being productive doing God’s work. Interestingly they also encourage us because though we may not be so important to them, our little chats keep their lives interesting so they will continue to indulge.

As a Christian, what would people come to you for? Have you got so much time in your hands that your home is the zone for gossip and slandering? Do you enjoy being the one whom everyone come to when they have to backbite yet you think you are on the right path because you do not initiate the conversations? If you are at the giving or receiving end of anything that is not pleasing to God, then you are on path for the same punishment as those who actively indulge in sin.

Where peter was freed from prison, he knew just where to go, he went straight to Mary’s house because her place was a familiar place of hospitality for the disciples and followers of Christ. Acts 12:12, When HE got there, many were gathered together praying as expected.

Don’t rob yourself off the blessing you are due, let your home and life be surrounded by people and things that will attract God’s blessings into your life.
