The Reason You Were Chosen!

Jesus decided to ask some of his disciples to go up on a mountain with him, and they went. Then he chose twelve of them to be his apostles, so they could be with him. He also wanted to send them out to preach and to force out demons. Simon was one of the twelve, and Jesus named him Peter. There were also James and John, the two sons of Zebedee. Jesus called them Boanerges, which means “Thunderbolts.” Andrew, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus were also apostles. The others were Simon, known as the Eager One, and Judas Iscariot, who later betrayed Jesus.

Memory Verse: God’s word is alive and powerful! It is sharper than any double-edged sword. Hebrew 4:12.

I love hearing what people have to say about the word of God and even more is that I love the relevance it is to our everyday life. Some people will write dates ending with BC (Before Christ) or AD (After Death) but everything that is put together in the word of God is dateless. It was relevant then; it is relevant now and will be until Jesus comes. So therefore, it’s very powerful, authentic, and active all day, every day. Hebrew 4:12.

The book of Mark’s recording of how The 12 were chosen is quite interesting and powerful as it not only helps us to understand how Jesus operated but also opens our eyes to who we are in Christ Jesus. A few things to be noted happened at this selection.

  • Jesus did not make a public show of His selection
  • He chose the twelve and gave them a title
  • Their role had clear responsibilities attached

From this, it’s clear to see that when God calls us, he has an assigned role for us to play in the world. Many will say I don’t think I know why God called me, it’s time to go back to the Father and ask Him “God what’s my purpose in life?”. This title is only the tag, it’s not the functionality and if you are not functioning, then you simply are a titled Christian and not adding value to the kingdom of God.

Your calling is not activated on Sunday morning and disabled on Sunday evening ahead of your working life from Monday to Friday and a relaxing Saturday. Your calling continues through each day alive and it’s the purpose you were created for by God as we saw in Jesus’ life while on earth. Jesus had an intention for His disciples to peach and cast out demons not just one time. This was what He called them for even before they understood or began to act in their calling.

Above everything you want to achieve, understanding why God chose you will help you become complete in Christ and help you live a life desired by others.
